RVCC Offering Programs for Home-Schooled Children

Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) in Branchburg is offering daytime classes this fall for home-schooled children. The following classes are being offered:

App Attack! Make Your First Game App—Students ages 11-14 explore the App universe and create their own mobile game application. Students also explore the world of phone-based and tablet applications. The class will be held Fridays, October 5 and October 12, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. The fee is $165.

Chess Club—Students ages 7-14 learn how to play the “game of kings” or, if they’re already familiar with the game, how to become better chess players. Chess is known for expanding cognition and logic skills in children, as well as building focus, concentration and discipline. The class will be held Fridays, September 28 to November 2, from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. The fee is $112.

Boost Your Abilities with Puzzles, Games and Contests—Students ages 7-14 improve their thinking skills, learn discipline and develop social interaction, all while doing puzzles and playing games. The class will be held Fridays, September 28 to November 2, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. The fee is $112.

MS Office—Students ages 11-14 learn the various features of Word, PowerPoint, Publisher and Excel. The class will be held Fridays, October 19 to November 2, from 10:30 am to noon. The fee is $60.

Middle School Writing Lab—Students ages 11-14 develop strong writing and critical thinking skills. Good mechanics, effective word usage and proper sentence and paragraph structure are also emphasized. The class will be held Fridays, October 19 to November 2, from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm. The fee is $60.

Fun With Glass Fusing and Ceramics—Students ages 7-12 turn glass pieces and mounds of clay into works of art. Participants explore two popular art forms requiring a kiln, creating one-of-a-kind glass art designs and exploring various painting techniques to make beautiful ceramic items. The class will be held Fridays, October 5-26, from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm.. The fee is $85.
