Moving can be one of the most stressful things you ever do, so it’s important to choose a moving company that can make that move go smoothly.
A New Jersey car insurance policy includes five standard coverages as well as two to four optional coverages depending on the insurance company. Each coverage type offers different choices in the maximum limits of money paid on a claim.
When shopping for New Jersey auto insurance, you should consider which coverage limits make sense for you. Standard New Jersey Car Insurance Coverage, Personal Injury Protection, Bodily Injury Liability Coverage, Property Damage Liability Coverage, Uninsured Motorist Coverage, Underinsured Motorist Coverage, Optional New Jersey Car Insurance Coverage, Collision Coverage, Comprehensive Coverage, Rental Coverage, Roadside/Towing Coverage, Standard New Jersey Car Insurance Coverage
Personal Injury Protection: Otherwise known as “PIP,” Personal Injury Protection is medical coverage for injuries you and others suffer in an auto accident. PIP pays if you or others living with you are injured in an auto accident. It is sometimes called “no-fault” coverage because it pays your medical expenses no matter who caused the auto accident. PIP has two parts: (1) coverage for the cost of medical treatment for injuries and (2) reimbursement for certain other expenses such as lost wages. You may purchase both parts of PIP coverage or medical treatment coverage only, depending upon your needs.
Bodily Injury Liability Coverage: If you cause an accident that results in injury or death, bodily injury liability coverage pays for claims as well as legal fees if you are sued. It also compensates others for pain, suffering and lost wages. This coverage is typically given as two separate dollar amounts: (1) amount paid per individual and (2) amount paid for total injuries to all people injured in any one accident that you cause. However, sometimes bodily injury liability coverage and the next coverage, property damage liability, can be purchased as a combined single limit, which offers a maximum limit of protection per accident for both.
Property Damage Liability Coverage: If you cause an accident that results in damaged property, this coverage pays for claims as well as legal fees if you’re sued. Uninsured Motorist Coverage: If you’re in an accident caused by an uninsured driver, this coverage pays for bodily injury or property damage. This means that claims normally paid by the other driver’s insurance company would now be paid by your own insurance company. This coverage does not pay anything to the uninsured driver.
Underinsured Motorist Coverage: If you’re in an accident caused by a driver who has less coverage than your underinsured motorist coverage, this coverage will cover the difference. Note: Claims paid under uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage exclude the first $500 in damages.
Optional New Jersey Car Insurance Coverage
Collision Coverage: If you have a collision with another car or object, this coverage pays for damages that you caused to your vehicle. You can also make a claim under this coverage for damage to your car from an auto accident you didn’t cause. This may take less time than making a property damage liability claim against the driver who caused the auto accident. (Your New Jersey car insurance company would then seek reimbursement from the other driver’s insurance company.)
Comprehensive Coverage: When your car is damaged not as a result of a collision, including hitting an animal, this coverage (also known as “comp”) will pay for those damages. Other examples of damages include theft, vandalism, flooding, fire or a broken windshield.
Rental Coverage: Some New Jersey car insurance companies offer their policyholders the option of purchasing rental coverage (sometimes called “Rental Reimbursement”). This coverage would pay for some or all of your rental car expenses as a result of your car needing repairs.
Roadside/Towing Coverage: Some New Jersey car insurance companies also offer an optional roadside or towing program. Depending on specific program details, this coverage would pay for some or all of your expenses relating to the towing and roadside assistance needed for your car.
